CHURCH ARCHIVIST – Church archives are becoming
more useful and needed as people search their genealogy and research
historical events. Our Church archives are in need of organization; we
need someone who can preserve what is valuable and toss away things
that are of no use. Ideally, we would like two people to oversee this
project. If you are the curious type and like discovery and history or
if you know someone who would like to do this sort of thing, please
contact the Church Office at 330-393-1524.
FPC LOOKING FOR OFFICE VOLUNTEERS - Due to an increased work
load on our Administrative Assistant, we are looking for volunteers who
would be willing to work in the Church Office helping to copy, fold and
collate the weekly bulletin and the monthly Spire. Carol will hold
training classes so everyone interested can feel comfortable with the
machines. If you are interested, please contact her at the office
(330-393-1524) for more information.
Usher Captains Needed – We
are in need of Usher Captains for 2010. If you are available and are
interested in serving your Church family in this capacity, please sign
up on the designated sheet on the bulletin board outside the church
office.
Stamps for Mission Work in the Congo – The Presbytery Women’s
Association continues to save US Commemorative and foreign stamps to
raise money to help the Presbyterian Printing Press in the Congo, which
makes Bibles, hymnals and Christian Education materials. These stamps
also assist the Theological and Leadership Development in Jamaica. Cut
off your stamps, leaving a ½ inch of envelope around them and drop them
off at the Church Office or give them to Marguerite Lovett, member of
the Presbyterian Women’s Association.

Free Community Lunch - Under
the direction of the Deacons, this lunch, prepared alternately at FPC
and Christ Episcopal Church, is served at FPC by our church volunteers
the third Tuesday of each month. Afterwards, free groceries are given
to eligible recipients. If you would like to volunteer, contact Pat McCaughan or the church office.
SHAWL MINISTRY AND IN STITCHES will once again meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month.
We meet at the home of Susan Stahl from 6:30 to 8 p.m. In Stitches is
for anyone who wants to work on handwork such as cross stitching or
needlepoint; in fact, In Stitches has also started making baby bibs and
bookmarks for baptisms. Shawl Ministry makes shawls to celebrate
weddings and births and to offer comfort or cheer. Over the summer,
Shawl Ministry was asked to make walker bags for some of the residents
at Autumn Hills. We will again be working with Pat Catan’s in making
camouflage scarves for our soldiers. Anyone is welcome to join. We have
crochet and knit patterns. We have easy-to-use looms for those who
don’t know how to knit or crochet. For more information or if you have
any questions, see Susan Stahl.
Donation Requests at FPC
MIRIAM-ESTHER CIRCLE has wonderful 2010 calendars for sale. This is our only fundraiser to support our mission efforts. They will be available in Fellowship Hall or from M.A. Vlad for $5 each.
GOD HAS PLACED WITHIN OUR CHURCH FAMILY and our hearts the
Grinder family. Michael, the husband and father of 6, was tragically
killed in a work-related accident on Friday, August 14. He would have
turned 40 the day following his funeral. Chrissy and her children are
not only struggling emotionally, but financially at this time. A fund
to aide the family has been set up here at FPC. Anyone wishing to
donate please make your check payable to First Presbyterian Church with
“Grinder Family” in the memo portion of the check. Please keep Chrissy,
Richard, Michael Jr., Connor, Christopher, Sharon and Duncan in your
prayers.
THE DEACONS would like to thank all who remember the Deacons
Cupboard while shopping. They are always in need of soup, macaroni and
cheese, tuna fish, spaghetti and other macaroni products and large
paper grocery bags. You may leave your items in the Deacons’ box in
Fellowship Hall.
S.O.P.H.I.A., as a service to our clients, has placed a collection box under the table in the hallway beneath their bulletin board for grocery coupons. Please place your un-needed coupons (current ones, please) for essential items such as cereal, bread, soap, paper products, etc. They will be available for clients to take on our monthly interview day or sent to interim clients in need of them. Thank you.
ADOPT-A-SCHOOL 2009-10 - A huge THANK YOU is extended to
everyone who donated school supplies for Willard Middle School. What a
successful drive we have had! We are still accepting supplies
throughout the year in order to continue our support to those less
fortunate. If you would like to donate items for this worth-while
mission, you may drop your items off in the Church Office. If you
cannot purchase the items but would like to contribute, monetary
donations are being accepted. These monies will be used for the Honors
Luncheons held three times a year. Please make your check payable to
FPC with “Adopt-A-School” in the check memo. Each luncheon we provide
costs approximately $170. Our yearly budget for the Adopt-A-School
program is $150. Once again, congratulations to all for another super
effort in our on-going attempt to aid those less fortunate in our
community!
SAVE PRODUCT LABELS Please
save the following product labels for our Adopt-A-School: Campbell
Soup, Swanson, Heinz Baby Food, Mrs. Paul’s, Open Pit, Marie Salad
Dressing, Schwebel Bread, Vlasic and Betty Crocker box tops. You can
drop your labels off in the appropriate container in the hallway
outside the Church Office.
Earth Friendly FPC Tote Bags - Each year the United States
consumes 30 billion plastic and 10 billion paper grocery bags. It
requires 14 million trees and 12 million barrels of oil to produce
them. And then there’s the problem with how much they add to the
landfills. Your Church Growth committee is encouraging you to help the
Earth and get our Church name circulated at the same time with the
purchase of earth friendly grocery/tote bags. They are a fresh green
color and a nice large size (larger than the bags offered at the
grocery stores) with our Church spire embossed on them. Pick up your
bags in the Church Office: $3 for one, $10 for four. Thank you to all
those who have already purchased bags and are no longer depleting our
precious natural resources.
Sanctuary Flower Chart – The Sanctuary Flower Chart for 2010 is
posted in the hallway outside the Church Office. Please reserve your
2010 dates now. Remember, you are able to have flowers on the Chancel
and/or the Columbarium Doors.
FPC Radio Ministry - Our service is broadcast at 10am Sundays on WHKZ 1440 AM. Donations may be placed in the offering plate designated for the Radio Ministry or mail checks to the church office with “Radio Ministry” in the memo area.
2 Cents-A-Meal - The Deacons collect for this program on the fourth Sunday of each month. 2 Cents-a-Meal provides a channel for Presbyterians to respond to the crisis of hunger at home and/or abroad. Bring your coins to drop in the offering buckets.
