CELEBRATING TWO CENTURIES More
than two centuries ago, on November 19, 1803, four women and two men,
with the help of Missionary Joseph Badger, formed this community of
faith. They gathered in a public meeting place, a stone’s throw from
our present church, just north of Courthouse Square, where the earliest
settlers built cabins along the Mahoning River.
On that long ago
November day of consecration, the founders planted a seed – our church
– which they tended with loving care. Later generations made sure the
roots from that seed grew even deeper into the rich soil of a
settlement which became the city of Warren.
Today, these roots
are still strongly embedded in Trumbull County. Our unwavering faith
brings our congregation into a third century of service to God and our
community.
Entrance to the Bicentennial Garden
THE GARDEN First
Presbyterian Church of Warren celebrated its 200th anniversary by
planting a Bicentennial Garden, filled with memories of the past and
symbols of its faith in the future.
The Bible contains many
scriptures about planting, sowing and reaping. Weaving this theme into
our bicentennial celebration lead to the formation of the Bicentennial
Garden.
ENGRAVED BRICKS Both present and former
members and their families are invited to participate in the Bicentennial Garden. Bricks
can be engraved with a family name or names of loved ones, a favorite
scripture or a tribute to a person or family.
The
memorials offer an opportunity to honor those who have passed away or
those celebrating life’s milestones, such as anniversaries, birthdays,
etc. (brick order form)
